Aliʻi Kula Lavender
When the Kingdom of Hawaii’s monarchs traveled to England and to other countries in Europe they would return to the islands with their favorite finds. Lavender was one of them. Nearly two hundred years later there are lavender farms that are flourishing on the slopes of Haleakala on the island of Maui. And thanks to the support of a special loan provided by First Hawaiian Bank through a program managed by OHA called the Malama Loan, Native Hawaiian entrepreneurs can follow their dreams and step outside the ordinary to start their own small businesses. Alii Chang was able to create an oasis “up country” at his Ali’i Kula Lavender farm. They give tours, host picnics, sell lavender products, and more. It is just sheer beauty up in Kula, Maui and the scent of all the lavender wafting through the crisp cool air is heaven on earth. Their mantra is relax, rejuvenate, renew. Continued good luck to Ali’i and his ohana in this New Year of the Rabbit. Life is Good.
