Food has always been one of my greatest passions, so I wasn’t mad “huhu” when my editor said she was sending me to the Yataimura Quality Food Court at Shirokiya at the Ala Moana Mall to check out two new stalls and to sample their new offerings.

Kitanoya specializes in world-renowned Hokkaido crab.  Overnighted and flavored by a special technique unique to Hokkaido, both king and snow crab are available at very reasonable prices.  Included on the menu are a Crab Bento, Crab Ikura Bento, and Crab Futomaki.

Matsuzaka-Tei’s offers sukiyaki-don (also known as gyu-don) bentos.  They also feature their own oishii version with a mildly sweeter flavor, as well as add-on toppings to suit a variety of palates.   There is seating for up to 8 people at the counter and tables nearby.  Turn over is very fast, the place is quickly becoming popular.

Check out this video from the grand opening of Yataimura to commemorate the 350th anniversary of Shirokiya.  Yataimura is open daily from 10:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m., and there is plenty of parking (a local must!)
