Julia We Love You
This month The Kahala pays tribute to Julia Childs & James Beard, with a plethora of culinary events created in honor of the great Julia Child’s 100th birthday anniversary celebration. Under her tutelage, she literally brought french cooking to the American kitchen. Besides Julia’s famous recipes featured in their a la carte menus during August, The Kahala will host a fabulous gourmet French dinner in support of the James Beard Foundation with wine pairings to special dishes prepared by guest chefs. Cooking classes are scheduled by Université Patisserie to teach you the art of mastering French braising and basting to baking pastries and desserts.
You can also sample the new Parisian Pleasures menu in the newly renovated Veranda and on a lazy afternoon experience their Better with Butter Tea service featuring Julia’s own dessert recipes. On Friday and Saturday Bounty of the Seven Seas dinner buffets are featured and you’ll find a variety of French-inspired dishes on the menu in theme with the month’s send up to James Beard. Even the Plumeria Beach House breakfast buffet will get a buttering up during the weekend, August 25 and 26. So if you’re thinking of taking a break from the same old… this is a great time to book a kamaaina stay-cation. Oh, not to mention The Kahala has created a redux of Julia Child’s actual kitchen ala the Smithsonian Museum’s tribute, right in the main lobby. Yes, visit and you’ll see a vintage stove, antique cookware (GM Roseann Grippo is a consummate collector and has loaned her wonderful kitchen items to dress “the set”) and more.
